Scrum Master

Contract - Cape Town 
Responsibilities:
• Act as a servant leader and coach to Agile teams, promoting Agile principles, values, and best practices
• Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies and ensure effective team participation and delivery
• Support the team in achieving Sprint goals, maintaining velocity, and improving predictability
• Identify, manage, and remove team impediments to ensure continuous progress
• Protect the team from scope creep and uncontrolled changes in priorities
• Collaborate with Project/Programme Managers to align delivery with broader programme timelines and frameworks
• Support the Product Owner with backlog management, prioritisation, and refinement
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and high performance within the team
• Promote collaboration, transparency, and strong team dynamics
• Monitor team performance and provide insights through reporting and Agile metrics
• Facilitate conflict resolution and escalate people-related issues where necessary
• Ensure adherence to governance, frameworks, and standards set by the Project Delivery Centre (PDC)
Competency
• Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum
• Understanding of iterative and incremental development
• Good knowledge of DevOps principles and software development practices
• Proficiency in Agile tools (JIRA, Confluence)

Qualifications & Experience:
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent Agile certification (preferred)
• Proven experience as a Scrum Master within an IT / software development environment
• Solid understanding of Scrum framework, including all ceremonies, artefacts, and principles
• Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives, Backlog Refinement)
• Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring Agile teams
• Strong experience in removing impediments and managing team blockers
• Exposure to DevOps practices and software development lifecycle
• Experience working with tools such as JIRA and Confluence
• Stakeholder engagement experience across business and technical teams
• Experience in the insurance industry (advantageous)
