Responsibilities
• Manage and improve AWS cloud cost visibility, reporting and analysis.
• Produce cloud cost dashboards and management reports, including cost trends, consumption patterns, budget variances and anomalies.
• Analyse cloud spend across accounts, workloads, applications, environments, services, cost centres and business units.
• Support annual, quarterly and monthly cloud budgeting and forecasting.
• Analyse actual spend against budget and forecast and identify key cost drivers.
• Support cost estimates and financial assessments for cloud migration, workload onboarding, modernisation and architecture changes.
• Define and monitor AWS tagging standards, cost allocation rules and ownership structures.
• Identify cloud wastage, idle, oversized, duplicated and underutilised resources and recommend optimisation opportunities.
• Support rightsizing, scheduling, storage, backup, data-transfer and managed-service cost optimisation.
• Analyse and support AWS Savings Plans, Reserved Instances and Spot usage.
• Monitor commitment utilisation and support purchase, renewal and adjustment decisions.
• Support FinOps governance, policies, budget alerts, anomaly thresholds and escalation processes.
• Facilitate regular cost review sessions with Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, Finance, Procurement, Architecture and Business stakeholders.
• Promote cost-conscious engineering practices while considering performance, security, resilience and business requirements.
• Use AWS-native tools such as Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, Cost and Usage Reports, Cost Categories, Cost Anomaly Detection and Compute Optimizer.
• Automate recurring cost reports, alerts and exception reporting where possible.
• Track optimisation initiatives and validate realised savings and avoided costs.
• Support cloud migration through cost baselines, cost tracking and post-migration cost comparisons.
